Cyperus rotundus (Nut sedge) is a short sedge with balls of starry spiky seeds, which spreads very rapidly in damp ground from seed. It’s quite late to appear but does then look good for quite a while. It’s considered a pest in its native Northern USA, but if planted in a basket in the edge of a pond it can be easily controlled. Best purchased in late Spring or early summer.
