Ranunculus aquatilis (Water crowfoot) is a very pretty native oxygenator with long thin branched leaves and white floating flowers in summer. It prefers cooler water conditions and preferably moving water, where it makes long strands. When grown in still water or wet soil it becomes much more finely branched. It will grow and flower in static ponds but won’t like it if it is too warm, tending to die back early. A more versatile choice for most garden ponds is probably one of the milfoils (Myriophyllum). Available Spring to Autumn.
