Hydrocharis morsus-ranae (Frogbit)

Frogbit is a sweet little free floating plant with green lily-like leaves, white flowers and trailing roots.

Hydrocharis morsus-ranae (Frogbit) is a sweet little native free floating plant with green lily-like leaves, white flowers and trailing roots. It retreats in winter and overwinters as a tiny bud called a turion which germinates and floats to the surface in Spring as a plantlet. Early in the season these are tiny and portions will be miserly, once they get going in summer portions will be more generous. A portion is likely to be a single small plant in May and two or three full sized plants in July. Frogbit prefers cooler and shadier conditions and is generally unsuitable for providing shade in sunny open water. Please be aware that a single plant bought in June isn’t going to solve your blanket weed problem!

Please don’t clog up my stock notifier in winter and early spring with requests for when this will be available – it will be available MAY to AUGUST!
