Arundo donax variegata, or A.v versicolor, is taller and more robust than the gold variegated version, with strong stripes of green and white on the leaves and pinkish new shoots. This plant starts late and finishes late so it is good for extending the season of interest; it’s very architectural so suits most larger ponds. New plants form at the leaf nodes if the stems are laid in water. It’s fairly hardy and will cope with temperatures down to about -5 Centigrade, but not for prolonged periods.
