Iris virginica Orchid Purple is an unusual variety that has purple flowers on strong foliage, purple at the base. The leaves are broad and the rhizomes substantial and robust, and it’s pretty much evergreen in mild winters. This is a reliable and easy plant to grow; the flowers are not as prolific as I versicolor, but it has a stronger presence when not in flower due to the broad handsome leaves.
