Hippuris vulgaris (Marestail)

Hippuris vulgaris (Marestail): No, don’t panic, not that one! This isn’t the impossible-to-eradicate terrestrial weed but an attractive native plant of shallow water with whorls of bright green needle-like leaves. The submerged leaves will oxygenate and the exposed ones add interest to the margins. It seems to do best for us if planted with the top of the pot about 10cm below water, so we get the best of both attributes. However, it will actually grow in quite deep water if you wish.
