Hydrocleys nymphoides (water poppy) is a tropical plant producing floating oval green leaves and yellow flowers and grows on long runners, a bit like Nymphoides peltata (fringe lily), but not anything like as vigorous. It’s provides some surface cover in warmer weather, but doesn’t survive a typical winter outdoors and isn’t suitable for cooler areas or for inexperienced owners! Plant in shallow water in full sun at the pond edge. Usually available in early to midsummer, but this is a speciality plant for enthusiasts and is only available infrequently.
