Iris louisiana Ann Chowning has tall light green leaves and large red flowers. All Louisiana irises are fast growing and need regular division, repotting and plenty of fertiliser. Flowers are large and spectacular, but much fewer than most other water iris; they do best in a warm location and aren’t best suited to Northern areas. They are pretty much evergreen in mild winters, though overwintered leaves may die off just as they flower, spoiling the effect, so trim back in early Spring.
