Luronium natans (Floating water plantain)

Luronium natans (previously Alisma natans), Floating water plantain, is a rare native plant of shallow water and wet swampy areas, producing oval green floating leaves and small white three petalled flowers.

Luronium natans was previously known as Alisma natans. Floating water plantain is a rare native plant of shallow water and wet swampy areas, producing oval green floating leaves and small white three petalled flowers. It performs best in very shallow water over mud, but in slightly deeper areas can exist in a different form with rosettes of narrow floating leaves. Sold as bare root plants, they are individually small and fragile but do spread steadily to provide surface cover in shallow areas. I do recommend that you buy them in pots, as they are very fiddly to deal with as bare root plants.
