Peltiphyllum peltata (umbrella plant) has been long known as Darmera; this excellent ground cover plant has circular bronzy scalloped leaves forming a canopy about a metre high. The pink globular flowers are produced in early Spring before the leaves develop, and the knobbly tubers are excellent for reinforcing loose banks. Spreads steadily but controllably in sun or part shade and moist to wet soil
