Physostegia virginiana (Obedient plant) is not obedient at all! The “obedient” bit refers to the ability of flowers to be bent and remain where put, unfortunately the same is not true of the whole plant. A very vigorous spreader only suitable if you have a large area available. Pretty pink flowers are presented on tall spires in late summer. “Rosea” is a strong pink. It’s not a true marginal plant but will grow in very wet conditions provided that the leaves aren’t submerged. It does flower very late when almost everything else has finished, so there’s a positive note to end on.
