Carex paniculata (Great tussock sedge) is a rare native sedge of wet areas, growing into large tough clumps much like a pampas grass. It takes quite a long time to reach a large size, but when it does it has created an amazing habitat for invertebrates and other small animals. It will grow in full sun or part shade and is happiest in deep squelchy wet mud rather than in a basket standing in a pond.
