Trollius europaeus is the European native globe flower; an exquisite native plant, evocative of unspoilt meadows. Emerging from a crown of strongly divided buttercup-like leaves, the flowering stems support numerous lemon-yellow flowers like giant buttercups. Slow to establish, but builds to form a good clump. Trollius are plants of alpine meadows, so to get the best from them they need plenty of sun with moist soil, but not saturated at the roots, especially over winter. They will also do well in light shade.
