Typha minima (Miniature bulrush) is just what it says on the tin, a mini-me version of the taller ones with cute pokers. People often say that they have trouble getting them to flower, but if you give them a big basket with plenty of fertiliser they will oblige. Divide and repot regularly to keep them going, the new material on the outside of the clump is the bit to keep. Like all Typha, the root tips are a bit sharp, so it’s a good idea to stand the basket on an old tile or slate to reduce the risk of puncturing the liner below the pot.
