Nuphar advenum (Spatterdock) is the American species of brandy bottle, which has shovel shaped floating leaves and cabbagey underwater leaves. It has globe shaped yellow flowers which mature with splashes of red. All nuphars are slow to get going initially, but become quite large and can be very invasive in earth bottomed ponds. The deeper the water, the less floating leaves and the more underwater leaves you will get. You won’t get any flowers if they are planted over about 1 metre deep.
