Marsilea quadrifolia (Water clover, Four leaf clover) is a vigorous native aquatic fern with floating leaves divided into four. If grown as a shallow marginal the leaves will be held like umbrellas in a canopy. It’s quite a runner and tends to be a bit vigorous for very small ponds, but is a useful plant for surface cover in a larger shallow pond. If planted in a pot it won’t stay there very long but ramble about all over the place.
