Nymphoides peltata (Fringe lily)

Nymphoides peltata (Fringe lily or Water fringe) is a useful ally in the battle against blanket weed. It is a fast growing plant with trailing stems and roots, with lily-like leaves, growing much like creeping buttercup. It does start into growth quite late, but will soon cover large areas, especially in shallow water in earth ponds. It’s not a lily at all but actually related to bogbean, another useful plant for surface cover. Yellow flowers are numerous in summer. Plant in baskets in shallow water and let it romp about.
